What an event! The World of Frida show was a juried show of which one of my paintings was selected to be a part of at the lovely Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek. The show’s main feature was a series of photographs of Frida Kahlo through the lens of Nickolas Muray. To accompany the photographs, more than 450 artists submitted work in the show. I am honored that one of my paintings was selected among so many talented and inspiring artists.
Back in December, our latest dog came to us (we have 4). A white pitbull with brown spots, who we were only supposed to be dog-sitting for a month. One month turned into……please don’t ever leave. She wormed her way into our hearts and especially mine. She was forever home and we renamed her Frida. I decided to do a doggy portrait and there was just no other way to paint her, but to depict her as Frida Kahlo herself. The completion of the painting happen to coincide with a call to artists requesting work inspired by Frida Kahlo and boom it was selected to appear.
This show opening drew in huge crowds. Over 3000 people attended the opening. It was incredible to feel the love for this artist. She still in her memory is bringing community together. The Bedford Gallery put on such a fun event, which not only included the art show, but vendor booths, crafts for the kids, mariachis, a Frida look-a-like contest, and a fashion show.
I couldn’t resist dressing up my Mia as Frida. Isn’t she adorbs!?!
