My kids have been obsessively watching the movie, The Book of Life, and I allow it, because I rather love it too. It has some really cool animation, beautiful mexican visuals, a great story, and awesome music. I mean the song, “Creep” is covered and who doesn’t love an old school Radiohead song. But I digress, so I started designing some halloween buttons for a harvest festival that I am participating in and started drawing “halloween” skulls, and I just couldn’t help myself. I started drawing flowers and fluorons, and threw in bright colors and happy expression. I do so love calaveras (sugar skulls) they remind me of being a kid and visiting my family in Mexico. The movie was a great way to introduce my kids to a beautiful tradition in the Mexican culture. They love all the skulls and want them for their backpacks. This year I plan to create an altar and really celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with them.
